Testimonials

When people who have more control over their childbearing and reproductive health have more control over their lives. Programs like Title X support girls and women to unlock economic advancement, educational opportunities and reclaim better health for themselves. When women receive adequate education about their health, they are better able to make informed decisions that will positively affect their future. Sexual education programs equip women and men with knowledge that is crucial for reducing infant mortality, STIs, and unwanted pregnancies.

Mission

To promote health equity through the delivery of high quality, affordable preventive health services for EVERYONE in the community with inclusiveness, respect and compassion.

Our Impact: Roaring Fork Valley residents and visitors have access to the preventive health services they need to achieve their optimum well-being

Background Statement

Community Health Services was incorporated in 1971 as a nonprofit called Aspen Valley Visiting Nurses Association. Over the years, CHS acquired contracts with the Colorado Department of Public Health to provide public health nursing services. In the early 80's CHS began offering prenatal care for women with Medicaid or Emergency Medicaid to prevent the high occurrence of women showing up to the emergency room with no prenatal care. Today, we partner with All Valley Women's Care, Aspen Valley Hospital and Eagle County Public Health to offer this program for expectant mothers. In 2009, CHS contracted with Pitkin County to be the Local Public Health agency, performing all of the state mandated core public health services. In 2017, Pitkin County formed an internal public health department to shift from direct service toward population health efforts. Today, Community Health Services contracts with Pitkin County to provide direct services for family planning, immunizations and tuberculosis on behalf of Pitkin County, focusing on low-income and uninsured populations. The prenatal, cancer prevention and dental programs are funded by local partners, foundations and the Pitkin County Healthy Community Fund.
